Kids 12 and under need adult supervision on race day. Any child may ride a bike to keep up with parents or guardians who are running the race! Strollers are ALSO welcome! (We can't recommend rollerblades because the trails are gravel). If you're not a runner, you can of course walk! (I'll be walking, maybe a slight jog when no one is looking? Mostly I'm just here for a good cause!)
Kids Fun Run will take place on the bike path, at the corner of 5th Street & School Road. Registration will begin at 10am and the race will start promptly at 10:30. At Grafton Parks and Recreation, our vision is to be the leading provider of outdoor recreational activities and services in the Rendezvous Region. We are well into the planning stages of building a brand new pool in Grafton. Our hope is that the new pool will continue to be the outdoor swimming hub for all surrounding communities, as well as our own! We hope it will bring more travel to Grafton, that baseball and camping families will be excited to come here just so they can use the pool! Think: Zero entry pool with playground structure in about 2 feet of water, basketball hoops, Large slides, diving board, lap pool, lazy river!
Our current outdoor pool is nice. It has been since 1954. But there are many large, structural plumbing problems going on underground, that do not meet the eye. This summer, we were very lucky to be able to use our pool house: changing rooms, bathrooms, showers. Now, Add that to the problem we have every spring no matter what: The ever sinking maintenance & plumbing room. Every freeze and thaw, that room pulls further and further north while simultaneously sinking. Because of that, We loose thousands of gallons everyday in our pool, through old cracks and new fissures. It's not economical or ecofriendly, and it's definitely NOT sustainable.
At Grafton Parks and Recreation, we're proud to have a team who can dream realistically. We know fundraising alone isn't going to get us a brand new pool with amenities. We have been saving and planning for the day our 70 y/o pool quits on us. We changed our mindset: This new pool MUST become a reality. How can we get there? We are planning on going to city council meetings to get community member approval for funding and the go ahead and break ground on a modern pool for our children AND our grandchildren to enjoy for 70+ more years! Help us, help them!
